TALiNT Partners growth lunch recap

Written by Holly Spiers | Aug 15, 2023 9:30:00 AM

Recently, Talint Partners hosted a Growth Lunch & Learn event, gathering industry experts to discuss the ever-evolving landscape of Irish recruitment. The event covered various topics, from agency practices to the impact of AI and automation.

"It was great to speak with many of the leading figures in the Irish recruitment market and learn how they are helping Irish businesses grow and compete. It was particularly notable how outward-looking they are to opportunities overseas as the war for talent forces companies to look further afield for the best hirers."

Here are the key takeaways:

The impact of agency PSLs on recruitment evolution

Frank Farrelly from Sigmar Recruitment started the event by addressing the question ‘What's driving the evolution in Irish recruitment?’ He pointed out that agency Preferred Supplier Lists (PSLs) often create a race among agencies to fill vacancies quickly. This can lead to candidates being selected based on speed, not suitability. Frank raised the question: "Are agency PSLs sexist?" He noted that women tend to be more cautious when applying for jobs, questioning their qualifications. His solution was to agree on exclusivity in recruitment to avoid the race for talent. This way, clients receive the best-matched candidates, not just the fastest ones. Frank also highlighted that agencies should focus on the growth of contingent solutions to find the right talent for their clients and ultimately offer a better service.

Winning higher margin business: compliance and expertise

Aina Fanning from CPL addressed ‘how recruiters can win higher margin business?’ She stressed the significance of compliance and legislation knowledge in effective client-agency collaboration. Clients often make requests that don't align with employment legislation, requiring agencies to act as advisors. Aina also highlighted the importance of reporting and data analysis. Just as a 5-star hotel costs more than a 3-star one, expertise and insights come at an additional cost but significantly enhance the value of a standard solution.

The role of AI and automation in recruitment

The event also discussed how AI, automation, and technology integration are transforming recruitment. Roisin Mcnamara from HERO explained the advantages of automated end-to-end contractor processes. This simplifies operations and leads to improved client feedback. She also stressed the importance of strong relationships with suppliers, especially when using them as part of contractor management solutions.

Declan Slattery from Talint suggested greater willingness to partner with suppliers, particularly when dealing with unfamiliar geographies, to provide clients with the best solutions.

Group Sales Director Daniel Haslam, and giant Global Business Manager, Lauren Forshaw attended this event on behalf of giant precision. Daniel spoke alongside Donal O'Donoghue and Aine Fanning about the growing use of contingent workers in Ireland. They also discussed the opportunities for recruiters to offer Managed Service Provider (MSP) services. These services create valuable, long-term relationships with clients, ensuring consistent access to the right talent.

This is what Daniel Haslam had to say about the event ‘It was great to speak with many of the leading figures in the Irish recruitment market and learn how they are helping Irish businesses grow and compete. It was particularly notable how outward-looking they are to opportunities overseas as the war for talent forces companies to look further afield for the best hirers."

We look forward to the next time and catching up soon with everyone and enjoying the famous Irish hospitality. ‘
