Team day at the Wilderness Foundation: transforming lives through nature

A Giant Group team and six of our clients walked into an allotment…

Was not the start of a bad joke, but actually the beginning of a volunteering day out of the office for the group!

They came together in the name of the Wilderness Foundation who own a community allotment in the city of Chelmsford, local to one off the Giant offices. The allotments were dug and weeded which took hard work and commitment from the team, especially in the August heat!

Preserving wild places and transforming lives through nature are the key goals of the Wilderness Foundation and were the motivations for the day. Our work will play a small part in helping children, teens, and adults to reconnect with society and themselves through a variety of outdoor activities, therapies, and mentoring. The charity has a strong belief in the positive impact of nature on both personal and social well-being.

Moving mountains (of compost) is something that we’re prepared to do where it will go on to create opportunities for people facing various challenges to reconnect with nature and discover skills that will equip them for the future.

Our team found the day incredibly rewarding as they got to be outdoors as well as spend time with our clients in person rather than over a Teams call. Coming together over a shared goal left the group with a feeling of achievement which they hope is felt in abundance by the 7,000 people that the Wilderness Foundation helps each year!

We want to wish the charity all the best as they go onto transform lives as they work to build resilience in vulnerable teenagers, protect vital spaces and empower the community.

If you’ve been inspired to get out your gardening gloves then volunteering opportunities can be found on the Wilderness foundation’s website: Wilderness Foundation | Transforming lives through nature

Giant give each of their staff a day off work to volunteer in their community- we look forward to updating you on what other colleagues get up to in order to give back locally!
